Include children in any current tuberculosis care program

HOW?
  • Include screening of children in community case finding and referrals

  • Add household tracing of ALL household members into TB programs

  • Provide IPT (Isoniazid, or INH Preventive Therapy) to children younger than 5 years of age who are infected with TB but do not have disease (see WHO guidance)

  • Include children when addressing stigma in tuberculosis

  • Include children in training and educational materials about tuberculosis.

  • Provide IPT (Isoniazid, or INH Preventive Therapy) to children with HIV infection.  Evaluate all HIV infected children for TB (see UNION/WHO guidance).

IT WILL COST LESS THAN 3 CENTS A DAY FOR IPT (Isoniazid, or INH Preventive Therapy) AND LESS THAN 50 CENTS A DAY TO TREAT A CHILD FOR TB

Children can be included in TB education materials

Children also experience stigma. They can be included in advocacy programs
