Include children in any current tuberculosis care program
HOW?
- Include screening of children in community case finding and referrals
- Add household tracing of ALL household members into TB programs
- Provide IPT (Isoniazid, or INH Preventive Therapy) to children younger than 5 years of age who are infected with TB but do not have disease (see WHO guidance)
- Include children when addressing stigma in tuberculosis
- Include children in training and educational materials about tuberculosis.
- Provide IPT (Isoniazid, or INH Preventive Therapy) to children with HIV infection. Evaluate all HIV infected children for TB (see UNION/WHO guidance).
IT WILL COST LESS THAN 3 CENTS A DAY FOR IPT (Isoniazid, or INH Preventive Therapy) AND LESS THAN 50 CENTS A DAY TO TREAT A CHILD FOR TB
